Hotel Name - Edda
|
| 3 Star Hotel |
This 3-star modern hotel is located in Iceland's second city and capital of the north, Akureyri. The city is a great base for touring the rugged northern coastline and the Hrisey Island bird sanctuary is just a short ferry ride away. Nearby are Kjarnaskogur and Vaglaskogur woodlands and top salmon, trout and sea fishing. In early summer, the sight of the sun on the horizon at midnight is like no other. Guests can have a delicious dinner buffet as well as an a la carte. A small cafe is also situated in the reception area and on sunny days guests can sit outside on the veranda. The 118 rooms are furnished in a contemporary style. |

This hotel is actually only open during the summer months and is used as student accommodation for the rest of the year. It is, however, anything but 'low rent' like some of the more basic Edda hotels and offers high quality, comfortable accommodation. TO0908 |

Hotel Name - Harpa
|
| 3 Star Hotel |
This hotel comes highly recommended. Located in the centre of Akureyri, the Harpa is actually the 3 star wing of 4 star Hotel Kea where guests should also check in. A 4 storey typically Icelandic white building. Although not particularly pretty, this building fits in well enough with the local architecture and is functional rather than stunning to look at. |
